"It's so good to know that my products have been put to a constructive use." The Major smirked back, walking up to the screens in the control room. "It wasn't easy to acquire those things, you know. I had to take quite a few risks." His glasses reflected the screens' glow, watching the target building fated to become a flaming ruin. "Ah, but for the right prize, any risk is worthwhile."

"I'm touched, Major." She followed him, her gaze on the screen unmoving. "I do hope your ventures weren't too risky. I would be very cross if something befell you."

He raised his right hand as though taking an oath, smirking at her over his shoulder. "I promise I did not take any more bullets than I've taken before." An exaggeration, but his subordinates had certainly taken enough bullets for him. Ordinarily he wouldn't have minded, but it was getting harder and harder to replace them these days...

The Major turned back to the screen and shrugged carelessly. "Besides, your concern is so very kind, that I have no worries. If anything ever happens to me, my spirit shall rest easy knowing that you'll visit bloody revenge in my name. It's so heartwarming!" He laughed. It sounded a little unstable, even by his standards. "This sweet camaraderie..."

[curses]

To her credit, her expression didn't change at the sound of his laughter, excepting a slight tilt of the corner of her mouth. "It's been around a decade now, hasn't it? To think we've known each other that long and managed to stay on good terms all this time."

Well, there were a few snags here and there, but they were now standing in the same room, working towards the same goal. "That does count for a bit of vengeance if someone manages to off you."
