[ she pauses, brushing her fingers against his cheeks and then: ]

What can I do?

[lunartics]

[ He leans into the touch, acting a little too obviously in need of the reassurance, but he can't help himself. ]

He wants to talk. [ He winces even as he says it. ] I don't trust 'im.

[neptunia]

[ she kisses him again, firmly, almost commanding as she's prone to do. [

What could possibly happen? What could he do? [ Namora pauses ] It is okay. Let him speak.

[lunartics]

[ The kiss reassures (and quiets) him, and he nods obediently. Of course, it's not so simple as just letting Marc in, even if he wants to, a part of him will always fight back -- like jerking awake before you hit the ground when you fall in a dream. ]

Hn... [ He closes his eyes and breaths out, his teeth clenching and baring when he breaths in again ] Shit...

[neptunia]

[ when he opens his eyes again, she pulls her hands back, staring at him tentatively. she's not nervous, just unsure of how to tread a situation like this. (it's new to her) ]

... Marc?

[lunartics]

[ Marc opened his eyes and what he saw caused him to scowl.

God fucking damn it. ]

Not kissing you.

[neptunia]

[ she immediately huffs and before she can catch herself, snaps: ]

You have not earned the honor to kiss a princess of Atlantis.

[ it's so surreal to her. she's looking at Jake, but speaking to a completely different person. ]

[lunartics]

And he did, huh?

[ Marc can't for the life of him figure out how Lockley bagged a goddamn princess but being jealous of himself is too damn infuriating to think about too hard. ]

[neptunia]

Yes.

[ her lip curls back and her gill slits flare ]

Do you have a problem with that, surface man?

[lunartics]

No.

[ yes ]

Just can't figure out why.

[neptunia]

He is a good man. A kind one.

[ her tone loses its harshness for a moment, but that waver is brief. ]

It is not difficult to understand.

[lunartics]

He's not. He's not anything.

[ never mind all the evidence he knows and feels contrary ]

Just another killer.

[neptunia]

You are wrong.

[ she bares her teeth, trying to keep her temper level ]

Do not say that about him.

[lunartics]

I made the son of a bitch up! I know exactly what he is!

[ despite it all, there's a part of him that feels guilt about making her this upset -- and it's not strictly Jake's influence to blame. Marc slumps back slightly, glaring still, but his tone grows less harsh. ]

Same as me.

[neptunia]

[ she doesn't notice his drop in tone, hers just getting steelier ]

That is not true. Stop.

[ it's difficult to say what exactly she's referring to ]

[lunartics]

[ he's turned more self-hating now. his tone isn't as angry, but it's bitterer and just as cold ]

What has he told you, exactly? He likes to think he's in charge, but did you know he killed me to do it? He hates me since I locked him up and took my goddamn life back.

[ marc winces and he rubs his hand against his jaw restlessly, fingers absently rubbing across his mouth -- across lips that had met namora's moments earlier ]

Princess, you fell for a crazy person.

[neptunia]

Stop.

[ her hand flutters up to her own lips when he touches his, eyes narrowing and inhaling angrily. she pauses though, realizing she wants to hear it. she's aware that he's some sort of level of unstable... after all, she's speaking to a completely different person, but does it matter? ]

What happened? Tell me, surface man.

[lunartics]

[ Marc keeps quiet for a moment as he considers the reply. Thinking before he acts isn't his strong suit, but Marc tries here. ]

Lockley was a disguise, a sham, and so was Grant. [ He doesn't know if she's met him either, but he doesn't care for now. ] Then they got minds of their own, and got rid of me because they were scared of me -- but it's my body, so I sure as hell paid the favor back.

[ Marc scowls, knowing that isn't fully true. Lockley and Grant were shoved down, but never fully removed. He didn't think they could be. ] Until it got me killed, and Lockley was back again.

But it is my goddamn body.

[neptunia]

[ Grant? who is Grant? another one? she hesitates, realizing that she just wants Jake back, but she had told herself she would give Marc a chance but all of this is... much too big for her. ]

It is their body too.

[ is it? she's not quite sure how this works, or how this should work. ]

[lunartics]

Because they took it.

[ His voice betrays a bit of weakness, and he tries to steady himself against it. ]

They think they're better.

[neptunia]

They don't.

[ her voice loses its steeliness at the weakness in his ownand she's a little unsure herself, as she's never even met this Grant, but she's sure Jake doesn't think that.

this is too confusing for her. ]

This needs to stop.

[lunartics]

[ He almost argues, because how could she even know, but he holds his tongue. ]

It doesn't.

[ he pauses for a tense beat. ]

You want him, right?

[neptunia]

[ if she's flustered by this, she's not showing it. her eyes narrow again, expression keeping its cool for the moment. ]

Why?

[lunartics]

[ Marc laughs a little, but it's self-deprecating. ]

That's enough of a problem right there.

[neptunia]

My relationship with Jake is no business of yours.

[ she's not even sure how to define what the have. whatever it is. and it's definitely gotten more complicated in the last five minutes. ]
