[she sighs a little, pushing her fish around the plate. it's unsurprising, she supposes, but the way that Kanaya has become even more dour than she remembers is still saddening]

Yeah. Guess it's a good thing that I'm going to just give you some on paper, huh?

[glowsferatu]

[ she has a habit of changing to reflect her circumstances, being what the situation demands of her. lately, that's been maintaining a legitimate life during the day to support her rebellious efforts at night. ]

Yes. This way I can keep it close at all times, something to view whenever I need the momentary reminder of what all of this is for.

[shipper]

[that makes her chuckle a little]

I think that we can find you something a little nicer to look at for motivation, Kanaya.

[glowsferatu]

[ she's not sure what to make of that suggestion, it shouldn't be a lot of trouble for anyone. ]

It would only need to be something small. Something I could keep hidden, or perhaps the meaning of which wouldn't be understood by anyone else.

I'd give you my hat, but I lost that a while ago. [she grins a little. it's a joke, Kanaya. don't freak out.]

[glowsferatu]

I'd rather you kept it anyway. You never know with the weather through this season.

[ she rests her cheek against her hand, stirring her tea as she considers it. ] I could perhaps make you a new one, if you'd like. Make the matter a proper exchange.

[shipper]

Would you?

[she brightens up, hopeful. the loss of her hat had actually been a lot more disheartening than it had any right to be; it was one of her last reminders of Equius, the bright blue cap one of the few things that kept her able to recall the exact shade of his face when he became flustered with her]

I'd really like that. I've got some veils and stuff for when I go out, but it's not the same.

[glowsferatu]

[ it's been a long time since kanaya's seen the exact color, herself. and a while since she's done any real sewing beyond simple patch jobs. there are so many things you miss when you're trying to be someone other than yourself.

there will probably be a lot of agonizing over swatches. ]

Well, I can see if there isn't something I can do for that, then. It's only fair that I don't leave you empty handed.

[shipper]

You already haven't.

[she smiles down into the remains of her meal, the expression fond and a touch bittersweet. Nepeta doesn't mean the food, or the tea. she means that beautiful painful explosion of emotions upon realizing that all her hoping was for something real, that she wasn't alone.

there was no way that she could ever say she went away from tonight empty handed.]

[glowsferatu]

[ kanaya closes her eyes and smiles. it's become too easy to simply fall into the motions of the work, knowing intellectually why she keeps her lines running and has her safehouses, but the emotional connection can be hard to keep a hold of. tonight has been the reminder she deeply needed, that no matter how alone she feels, the people who are important to her are fighting just the same, no matter where they've ended up.

she places a hand on top of nepeta's, giving her that sad smile of hopelessness being demolished. ]

I can't tell you how glad I am to have found you, Nepeta.

[shipper]

Me too.

[her hand flips over to squeeze Kanaya's, a gentle gesture of gratitude and reassurance. they can get through this without destroying themselves in the process. she knows it.]

And neither of us will get lost again.

[glowsferatu]

[ kanaya's smile drops a little. ] Mm. That's a good goal to keep.

[ one she should adopt for herself. not just vowing to never lose each other, but herself, too. it may take some finding first, but...maybe it really could be worth it. ]

[shipper]

It's probably the most important one that I've got.

[she shrugs a little. Nepeta didn't exactly have many goals, passions that were driving her to keep going, but the ones that she did possess were infinitely more motivational. she had people waiting for her, here and at home. it would be disrespectful for her to destroy herself getting to them.]

[glowsferatu]

Then it's one we can share. And I can tell you of my other goals, as well.

[ she feels the two could go hand in hand. it will be a much better environment to thrive in if they can change their situation, if the rebellion can prevail. no matter how long it will take. ]

[shipper]

Oh, I'd like to hear them.

[and she means it. Kanaya has always been very driven in whatever she does, and Nepeta can't help but be curious to know what's driving her these days]

[glowsferatu]

[ her expression takes a suddenly serious turn. ]

You must have surmised by now that I'm in league with the resistance.

[shipper]

[she nods, expression mirroring Kanaya's]

Yeah, I kind of figured. I wouldn't think that you'd be able to just sit back and not do anything.

[glowsferatu]

You found me in the middle of a job tonight. I do transportation for them, tracking and moving items, persons, whatever I'm needed for.

But I have to move between the cracks in the dampeners. Tonight's trouble was a bit unexpected, but given what came of it, ultimately I'd say it was worth the bother.

[shipper]

Thanks. [she grins a little, the joke soft and not really meant to be responded to]

Have you been doing it for very long? I don't really hear about anything like this from anyone I talk with.

[that's because she rarely talks with anyone for more than a moment or two, but that's irrelevant and not really Kanaya's problem]

[glowsferatu]

That, I'd say, is partly by design. We don't like our operations to be easily discovered, but there are methods of connection when we need to establish them. It's just...they have to be very careful.

I've been involved with this for nearly two sweeps.

[shipper]

[she whistles lowly, impressed]

That's really great! Have you gotten very far yet or is there still a lot to do? It's kind of hard to tell just from stuff like rallies and newspapers.

[it's even harder to gauge when you're an actual imPort, too. even if the tide has been shifting she'd never know after someone got a glance at her real appearance]

[glowsferatu]

[ and it's a slow process anyway, when so much of it has to be covert. ]

I'm more involved with relocation and resource management than the forward planning. My job is to help us maintain the luxury to operate despite the circumstances.

But I hear things, every now and again. Certain individuals we've acquired that should bring the fight in our favor.

[shipper]

I really hope so. [it's heartening to hear, even if it's something so small as that] I'm kind of getting tired of starting fights at rallies.

[glowsferatu]

[ her brows furrow at that remark. ]

You don't...actually attack anyone when you attend those, do you?

[shipper]

No, no, of course not! That'd be horrible. [she puts her hands up in front of her chest in a gesture of innocent]

I just want people to talk about what they're doing so I kind of...nudge them into doing that.
