You don't think the park would be too open an area?

[ she's put too much work into establishing a human identity that wouldn't be suspected as an import. having that compromised could throw a wrench into all of the work she does outside of it. ]

Not when it's dark. I know all the places that most people are too scared to go.

[most of the fear is because of her, but who needs to know that? everyone needs a few safe places, even in a large untameable place like the park]

Fear often gives way to action, eradication. I prefer places they don't know exist to begin with. It's safer that way.

[ that's the whole purpose of her hub, after all. this apartment and the others she has scattered through the city are set up so no one gets in if they don't know how, if she doesn't bring them. ]

I'll arrange a time and a location for you. That will be your window to arrive here. I'll have dinner already waiting next time.

...that's fine too, I guess. [she takes a bite out of her fish, chewing thoughtfully. Nepeta doesn't like hiding, even though her entire life has become a cloak and dagger operation. meeting in public places, even ones that she's specifically shrouded in urban terror, take away from that a little.]

I'd purromise to bring dessert, but I don't think that you'd like anything that I could get my hands on very much.

[glowsferatu]

[ she sits there idly staring into her tea as she stirs it. ] You never know. It would depend on how hungry I am.

[ blood is far sparser these days, after all. she doesn't like settling for animals, they taste ghastly, but he knows that if push came to shove, that might be her only option. she had to go that route already in some of the darker days now past. ]

[that gets her to laugh]

Really? Geez, who knew that this was all it'd take for you to share my favorite meals with me!

[ kanaya gives a fanged grin right back to her. ]

It's utterly shocking what just a smidgen of desperation will lead one to do.

If you're not careful you'll stop brushing your hair and wake up to cute pictures in blood on your wall.

[glowsferatu]

[ kanaya scoffs, amused. ]

I think that would cost a slighter higher price than I'd be willing to pay.

[shipper]

Good art is priceless! You should be grateful to get it fur free. [she giggles a little]

Too bad I'll have to wipe it away before someone else might see.

[shipper]

Yeah, I guess you're right. They'd probably be way too jealous if they saw something like that.

Well, jealousy isn't exactly my primary concern to result from discovery, but I suppose that, too, is possible.

[she sighs a little, pushing her fish around the plate. it's unsurprising, she supposes, but the way that Kanaya has become even more dour than she remembers is still saddening]

Yeah. Guess it's a good thing that I'm going to just give you some on paper, huh?

[glowsferatu]

[ she has a habit of changing to reflect her circumstances, being what the situation demands of her. lately, that's been maintaining a legitimate life during the day to support her rebellious efforts at night. ]

Yes. This way I can keep it close at all times, something to view whenever I need the momentary reminder of what all of this is for.

[shipper]

[that makes her chuckle a little]

I think that we can find you something a little nicer to look at for motivation, Kanaya.

[glowsferatu]

[ she's not sure what to make of that suggestion, it shouldn't be a lot of trouble for anyone. ]

It would only need to be something small. Something I could keep hidden, or perhaps the meaning of which wouldn't be understood by anyone else.

I'd give you my hat, but I lost that a while ago. [she grins a little. it's a joke, Kanaya. don't freak out.]

[glowsferatu]

I'd rather you kept it anyway. You never know with the weather through this season.

[ she rests her cheek against her hand, stirring her tea as she considers it. ] I could perhaps make you a new one, if you'd like. Make the matter a proper exchange.

[shipper]

Would you?

[she brightens up, hopeful. the loss of her hat had actually been a lot more disheartening than it had any right to be; it was one of her last reminders of Equius, the bright blue cap one of the few things that kept her able to recall the exact shade of his face when he became flustered with her]

I'd really like that. I've got some veils and stuff for when I go out, but it's not the same.

[glowsferatu]

[ it's been a long time since kanaya's seen the exact color, herself. and a while since she's done any real sewing beyond simple patch jobs. there are so many things you miss when you're trying to be someone other than yourself.

there will probably be a lot of agonizing over swatches. ]

Well, I can see if there isn't something I can do for that, then. It's only fair that I don't leave you empty handed.

[shipper]

You already haven't.

[she smiles down into the remains of her meal, the expression fond and a touch bittersweet. Nepeta doesn't mean the food, or the tea. she means that beautiful painful explosion of emotions upon realizing that all her hoping was for something real, that she wasn't alone.

there was no way that she could ever say she went away from tonight empty handed.]

[ kanaya closes her eyes and smiles. it's become too easy to simply fall into the motions of the work, knowing intellectually why she keeps her lines running and has her safehouses, but the emotional connection can be hard to keep a hold of. tonight has been the reminder she deeply needed, that no matter how alone she feels, the people who are important to her are fighting just the same, no matter where they've ended up.

she places a hand on top of nepeta's, giving her that sad smile of hopelessness being demolished. ]

I can't tell you how glad I am to have found you, Nepeta.

[shipper]

Me too.

[her hand flips over to squeeze Kanaya's, a gentle gesture of gratitude and reassurance. they can get through this without destroying themselves in the process. she knows it.]

And neither of us will get lost again.

[glowsferatu]

[ kanaya's smile drops a little. ] Mm. That's a good goal to keep.

[ one she should adopt for herself. not just vowing to never lose each other, but herself, too. it may take some finding first, but...maybe it really could be worth it. ]
